My name is Emily. I’m a 34 year old web designer living in Nashville, TN, with my boyfriend and my cat, Abby. If you like food, I also have a food blog with lots of food photography, some of which may be cross-posted here. My DVR has turned me into quite the obsessive TV watcher, but my brain isn’t totally rotted out, I love to get out and enjoy nature when I can.
I’ve always been “artsy”, and my love of drawing and painting in High School took me to Savannah College of Art and Design school where I discovered that being a painter was not a feasible career choice if I wanted to pay my rent, so I chose to pursue the “design” part of my school and became familiar with programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Designing websites started as a hobby when I wanted to make a layout for my blog, so I taught myself (x)HTML and CSS. Flash forward 10 years and I’ve designed over 400 websites and have extensive knowledge of all the major content management systems, though I’m partial to WordPress. I’m also a perfectionist who still hand codes everything because code produced from WYSIWYG and HTML editors has been known to make me nauseous. I prefer clean, light and semantic markup. This means all my clients get fast loading, search engine optimized websites that are beautiful and elegant on the outside as well as under the hood.
I’m the founder of Swank Web Design and Hosting. Swank Web Design is a collective of designers like myself. Each of us has a wide range of specialties and by pooling our talents we’re able to offer the best service for all of our clients. We offer custom web, graphic and print design, for bloggers, authors and small businesses. We also offer additional services like hosting, domain registration and search engine optimization. If you can’t wait until I’m available to work on your project feel free to check out the other talented designers at Swank.
I’ve never seriously studied photography (though I’ve always liked taking pictures). I upgraded to my first real DSLR in 2009 and discovered that photography was a great outlet for my creativity. I started this blog so I could learn my new camera and hopefully become a better photographer in general.
Comments and constructive criticism are always welcome. All the pictures here are my property so please don’t steal or hotlink images. If you would like to use any of my pictures on your blog or website, I’m generally open to that sort of thing but please contact me and ask first.
All pictures prior to Dec. 28th, 2009, were taken with a Kodak Z650, which was a nice, inexpensive, beginner camera. When I outgrew it I upgraded to a Canon EOS 500D (Rebel T1i). I upgraded again in 2013 to a Canon EOS 7D.
Prime: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
Telephoto/Zoom: Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 (2010), Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 (2011+), Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 (2013+), Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 (my primary food photography lens since late 2011)
